Design-it-yourself Sports Apparel: Success On The Web
June 26, 2004 -- Since 1983, Jammin Apparel has been quietly changing the way sports apparel is being sold. Brothers Mark and Brian Grinde (pronounced, “Grind-ee”) have been selling their wide array of custom made logo sports apparel “their way,” on the web, rather than through the traditional outlets and distribution channels.
Jammin manufactures custom outerwear and uniforms for sports teams and clubs that can be embroidered, appliquéd or screen printed with logos.
Jammin’s customers go online (www.jammin.com) and can order team apparel in nearly an endless combination of fabrics, designs, colors and sizes—all custom made to order. Teams and clubs can provide their own logos or Jammin’s website can actually prompt the customer on how to create their own from scratch. When an order is placed, one of Jammin’s sales personnel contacts the customer to ensure their satisfaction before filling the order, thereby minimizing returns of custom made merchandise. Customers typically receive their orders in 2 – 3 weeks.
Jammin has two key premises that are hallmarks of their business: To proudly state that their apparel is “Made in the USA,” and to offer custom apparel down to a quantity of one. Almost as important to the Jammin team is that they never discontinue a style or color combination. Former customers returning after years since their last order are pleasantly surprised to find their favorite design still available.
Mark and Brian have talked about expansion, but have elected to be patient about how it’s done. “We know we could take the traditional marketing and distribution paths, but that’s not us,” says Mark. “Our growth hasn’t been as steep as some of our competition, but we enjoy steady growth and consistent return on investment. Brian agrees, “We have a very loyal customer base of teams and clubs—and even the military—who do business with us regularly, and they like us so much, they bookmark our site and put links to Jammin on theirs!”
In addition to their own substantial customer base, Jammin also manufactures “private label” apparel for some of the best known sports marketing companies around the globe.
Jammin is located in Anaheim, California and is situated very nearby two of the larger sports venues in the area: Angel Stadium of Anaheim and the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim.
